Summary:
Darren is the normal boy who is naughty, have many friends, like to play sports, and live with his dear dad, mom, and younger sister. One day, his friend brings the handbill of the freak show, and they plan to go to there. There are four boys but they get only two ticket, so Darren and Steeve go there not telliing their parent that they will go. The show was amazing but Steve acts strange when he see Mr. Crepsley that operate poisonous spider Madam Octa. Darren was so ecxited to see Madam Octa. After the show, the incident happens. Darren peep that Steve entreat Mr. Crepsly to join him as a companion of vampire. But Mr. Crepsley turn down Steeve's proposal when he say his blood is so evil. Darren is shocked that his best friend want to be a vampire. Some days later, Darren steal Madam Octa that attracts him most from Mr. Crepsley. But whem he and Stteve plays with Madam Octa, she bites Steeve by accident! Darren look for Mr. Crepsley to ask if he has the medice that cure poison of the spider, and Mr.Crepsley impose the condition on giving his medicine. It is that Darren has to be half vampire and help him. Darren don't want to follow him but he wants to save Steeve's life, he agree with that condition. That's start of his second life as a half-vampire.

This is a first book of the series " The sage of Daren shan". I love this series!! I've read all books of this series in Japanese when I was in junior high school. I don't remember the story exactly, so I can enjoy reading it again. I am sure that those who like to read Harry Potter must like this series, either. Daren Shan is exciting as well as Harry Potter. Also, it is good for me that English written in this book is much easier than one in Harry Potter! ( I gave up reading Harry Potter in English.) Another thing that makes this story interestind is that the writer betrays our ecpectation. I mean, I can't guess how the story will develop and the story is often unecpected. That's why it is exciting. I'm going to continue to read this series.
